The Secret Behind Our Bright Blue Sky
A2The sky is blue because of how sunlight moves through the air.
Sunlight looks white, but it actually has many different colors.
These colors are the same as the colors of a rainbow.
The air around the Earth is full of gases and small particles.
When sunlight hits the air, it hits these gases and particles.
The light then moves in many different directions.
Blue light travels in shorter and smaller waves than other colors.
Because it moves this way, blue light spreads more than red light.
This is why our eyes see blue when we look up on a clear day.
Lower in the sky, the blue color might look a bit lighter.
At sunset, the sunlight has to travel a longer path through the air.
This long path makes the blue light move away from your eyes.
Then, you can see the bright red and orange colors instead.
Other planets have different skies because their air is not the same.
It is amazing how light and air work together to make colors.
